Couch, Shady, Silver by TheShadyFedora Couch, Shady, Silver by TheShadyFedora
I've officially made my friends feel so objectified right now.

Why did I choose to take time illustrate a visual pun of my friend's names? Some may attribute boredom to the cause, but in reality I was inspired upon hearing- (I was really bored.)

Inspirers of this visual gag include these fine users:

A testament to our mutual companionship.

Illustrator of the painting that adorns this editorial office is none other than :iconpovetris: A gift that was imparted to me one fine Christmas day:

I really like the mood in this piece, it has a mysterious/investigative appearance with the dim lighting, the desk contents, and especially the top-hat. You know there's a story behind this with the bars of silver, visually looks like a Film Noir shot from a movie, I can almost hear a narration going :XD:

Eheheh- indeed! The noir genre is rather- infamous for it's narration. And of course, how else can one possibly explain the presence of an office, an old fashioned hat. and bars of silver?

Hello! Here from ProjectComment as well ;)
First of all, the picture invites me into a dark office room. The blurred edges of all the objects in the foreground on the desk make them feel close. Therefore it might be a little confusing that some of the edges not as close to the "camera" are blurred as well, while others are not. The shade in the room's edge and at the ceiling can become very dark depending on the computer monitor (mine has a tendency to darken dark spots even further). Then it seems optically close to the foreground. I understand that the "pun items" are sharp edged in order to recognize them as the relevant stuff. There the shade is sharp edged, which works despite on the glass window.
The pespective of the window and more or less of the left /back wall seems a bit odd, as the horizontal lines are heading upwards to the left instead of downwards (as they should in comparison to the right wall).
The coloration is well done; green, blue and yellow (brown) are playing together and the blue gives an impression of a cold, dark night outside. The picture at the wall repeats it and balances the whole thing. The light of the lamp would propably create different highlights on the silver bars (which seem oddly golden - perhaps making them silver would be more effective than following laws of realistic lighting and writing "Ag" on three of them).

All in all the scene is nicely portrayed, with some possibilities to improve things that can be seen when one looks carefully. :)

Thank you for the detailed well-thought out critique! I'll be sure to take your feedback into account for future pieces, quite helpful it'll be I daresay. ;)

Hi,

Great work on composition and storytelling. It is a very atmospheric scene and has a cinematic quality.
One suggestion is to light up the subject matter more. He is shrouded in darkness and this makes it difficult to notice him. The items that are in the foreground have a lot of light which bring them first to the viewer's attention, instead of the main subject matter. Also, consider that the items in the foreground would shed more light on the character than is currently portrayed. The painting on the side wall looks very interesting but it is also rather on the dark side and difficult to make out.
Great work nonetheless!

Thank you for your thoughts, indeed the main subjects are a bit dark in this piece, while the foreground is quite light, something I should have payed more attention to, and perhaps had diverted attention better. But thank you for your analysis! I'll bear this all in mind for future pieces.

Such an atmospheric piece, noir but still cozy and warm! The lighting is amazingly done. You progress with each work =) Also I love the detalisation, even blurry parts are done quite carefully. And it's a real honor to see my piece here =D

Why thank you very much! :D  Being my first "true" interior I am extraordinarily glad to hear that, as improvement above all else is what I strive for. And, truth be told if I ever did have an editorial office of my own, I would get prints of all of the gifts I had received and frame them somewhere! A little something to do them justice. :D

Ah thank you so much! :D We always refer to each-other as "Shady", "Silver" and "Couch" so with such a bunch of names how could I not at least have taken two of them literally? Splendid opportunity it was!

Thank you very much! ^^ It's a little technique called depth-of-field, really helps direct a focus in an image. ;)

Thank you! :D And indeed- it was unlike anything I have ever done before (but I had still wanted to do it for a while :P) And yes! It is merely a given that there would be great shading because eh- "Shady" is in the middle of my name?

Guess I can't say "Shading" is my middle name then

Precisely it's because you're eh- accommodating and make a great medium to bring us all together- yes that's it! After all, whenever you're not around we're all on the floor- and eh- that is rather unpleasant!

Thank you! ^^ You were the only thing making the piece a little more than just a normal scene of reading late at night on the couch- After all it isn't every day that one has a pile of silver simply laying on their couch.
